Job Description

The Originator is a primary resource for the sales team to promote the sale of complex commodity and non-commodity offerings of the Strategic Services Group. They are responsible for evaluating customer relationships and assessing the appropriate energy solutions. They will build customer relationships through pre-sale and post-sale strategy participation, face to face interactions with key procurement clients, and assist sales in ongoing cross sell opportunities. An Originator will also provide energy market expertise to internal and external customers and will work with the Strategic Services team to maintain facets of an Adviser relationship.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or specific energy market analysis-related experience required
  • Five or more years related industry experience required
  • Exceptional presentation skills and the ability to regularly interact with internal and external senior management
  • Able to create and articulate customer procurement strategies
  • Proficient with computer spreadsheet and database applications
  • Strong understanding of the wholesale and retail energy markets
  • Ability to understand, create, and modify effective market and business strategies
  • Skilled in business analysis and identifying market potential for significant business growth
  • Holds Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP) or Certified Energy Management (CEM) Designation
  • Excellent quantitative skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail and deadline orientation

  • Directs prospective and cross-selling opportunities within Strategic Sales through internal and external relationships
  • Work directly with Key Accounts, Direct and Indirect sales teams to drive the acquisition of new business and cross-selling
  • Interface with Strategic Services and DE&P teams to determine commodity and non-commodity solutions and product execution to key customers
  • Analyze a wide variety of solutions, selecting the most relevant products and tools to meet specific client objectives
  • Travel (up to 50%) to key customer sites to represent commodity and non-commodity strategy and results to senior management
  • Manage key clients by setting procurement objectives, developing reporting capabilities and benchmarks, maintaining strategy with customers by identifying changes in scope, interpreting reporting outputs
  • Tailor reporting for all prospects and successfully present the DE product suite to key customers
  • Interface with pricing and wholesale supply and trading to provide wholesale market information, transparent pricing and execution to commodity customers
